Count Google Drive Files in Folders and the Entire Drive

Technically, getting the files count information for a top-level folder is easy and straightforward. However, things get a little bit tricky when you want to get information for all files in the subfolders, and your cloud account. Read on as we demonstrate some ways to accomplish this task.
Count Google Drive Files in Only the Top-most Folder (No Sub-Folders)
Method 1: Select the Files to View Files Count Info
The simple and easy way to view the files count information is to just select the files.
- Open up Google Drive in your web browser.
- Go to the folder that contains files and folders you want to count.
- Select all the files and folders using the Ctrl + A shortcut keys combination.
- Google Drive will automatically display the selected files/ folders count information on the bottom left.
Method 2: Use the Share with Others Dialog
Similarly, you can use the Share with Others dialog to view the total number of files selected. Don’t worry, we’re not going to ask you to share any of your private files with others.
- Go to the folder that contains the files/ folders you want to count.
- Select the files, right-click on your selection and choose the Share option.
- In the new dialog, you’ll see the number of items chosen to share. This is the total number of files and folders selected for sharing.
- Just close the dialog.
Get Files Count Information for Top-Level Folder & All Sub-Folders
Method 1: Using Google Drive for Desktop App
Google Drive for Desktop, earlier known as Google Backup & Sync, is a synchronization app from Google. It lets you synchronize files on your computer online. Moreover, you can also access your online files from your computer and any changes made to these files will be automatically updated.
Google Drive for Desktop automatically shows the total number of files and folders in the status bar, much like other files stored on your computer. You can get additional information in the Folder Properties dialog in Windows.
- Download and install Google Drive for Desktop.
- Open File Explorer.
- Double-click the Google Drive icon.
- Double-click the My Drive folder.
- Go to the folder where you want to count the number of files and subfolders.
- Press the Ctrl + A shortcut keys.
- The total number of selected files and folders in the top-level folder will appear in the status bar.
- To get the file count for files in the sub-folders, right-click on the topmost folder and select Properties. The Folder Properties dialog will display the required information, along with other information such as total storage size occupied.
Get Total Files & Folders in Your Entire Google Drive Account (Including Shared Files)
Method 1: Using Google Storage Page
- Open up the Google Storage page. Or simply, visit your Google Drive account and then click on the Storage section at the left-hand side panel.
- All the files in your Google Drive account, including those files shared with you by your friends and colleagues, will now be visible.
- Press Ctrl + A.
- The total number of selected items will be displayed on the bottom left.
